Why you should replace your air filter this winter

We encourage routine maintenance on your heating and cooling system frequently, but this doesn’t only mean ongoing tune-ups – it also involves checking your air filters. It’s a simple way to help keep your system running smoothly and increase your indoor air quality, and you can easily do it all yourself! Now is the ideal time to examine your filter, as the cold season comes to a close and summer is on the horizon. There are a lot of benefits to switching out your air filter for a replacement, such as:

Increasing the life and efficiency of your system
A definite way to cause a system interruption is a dirty air filter. Excess dirt that accumulates on your filter can force your whole system to run harder than it should to keep the air in your home cool. Not only will it hinder the performance of your system, but it can escalate your utility bills and result in your system overheating.

Increasing indoor air quality
The goal of an air filter is that it catches contaminants through your air system before it enters your residence. The older a filter gets, the less effective it is in trapping things like dust and mold that can affect the health and comfort of your house, particularly if someone in your family suffers from allergies or asthma. With spring near, pollen and mold are especially prone to be hanging around and you would prefer they aren’t moving in your indoor space. A quality, clean air filter will help your household breathe easy and keep healthy during allergy season.

Examine your system or chat with your local HVAC expert for recommendations on how regularly you should be swapping out your filter. For the majority of the filters through Rescue Heating & Air , we recommend an annual change with the highest MERV filter you have access to.
