That’s why Rescue Heating & Air wrote this handbook to help you find out what may be happening with your AC. From here, you’ll learn a couple common explanations for why your house is feeling a little unpleasant. And though a few of these are simple] DIY tasks, you may have to bring in a pro for AC repair.
And if you need us, Rescue Heating & Air is prepared to take care of your home. Here are five reasons why your air conditioner may not be cooling your home in Alice.
1. Your Thermostat Settings May Be Incorrect
Every family adjusts their thermostat a bit differently to work with their personal requirements. Even so, a lot of people make the misstep of setting their system to “On” as opposed to “Auto.” Under this setting, the fan in your AC will continue to produce an air current even once you’ve reached your desired temperature.
This can look like your vents are pushing out untreated air, when really it’s only utilizing the fan on a more regular basis than needed. Trying changing this setting and see if things seem better.
2. Your Home Comfort System Needs Some Cleaning
There are two primary places to check for dirt or dust accumulation when your cooling system doesn’t appear to be performing as it should.
Firstly, examine your system’s filter. If you don’t switch your filter on a regular basis, accumulated dirt can make it more difficult for air to move through and lower the temperature your space. If your filter is noticeably dirty or dusty, it’s definitely time for a change. (And in general, you need to change it about once every three months at a minimum.)
If your filter appears fine, go to your outside unit. Make sure there’s adequate room around your air conditioner and clean up plants or dirt stuck there. This piece of your system releases the heat from your home. If the coils outside are congested, you won’t be comfortable indoors.
We recommend scheduling professional air conditioner maintenance every year to keep your equipment operating like it should and to keep your warranty valid.
3. Your AC is Leaking Refrigerant
Refrigerant is the chemical that cools the air in your space. It cycles between your internal and external units to soak up and discharge heat, to help your house remain cool. If there is a crack along that system, you won’t be cool again until you set professional air conditioning repair.
Signals of a refrigerant leak include a decrease in chilled air, pricier monthly bills, frozen evaporator coils and odd hissing noises arising from your HVAC.
If you are worried refrigerant could be leaking, call Rescue Heating & Air for system repair as soon as possible. Refrigerant can also be damaging to your family’s health.
4. One or More Pieces Need to Be Replaced
Your air conditioner includes a couple crucial pieces. These include the blower, evaporator coils, compressor, fan, condenser coils and expansion valve. If one part is failing, your home comfort will suffer.
Our Rescue Heating & Air experts are well-trained and knowledged in HVAC. They can help you diagnose and repair any issue.
5. Your Air Conditioner Needs to Be Upgraded
If your system is older than 10 years old, it is probably time to think about new air conditioner installation. As your system ages, it simply won’t work as well as it did in the beginning. And it could be making your house too warm.
If your air conditioner is on the younger side but still isn’t cooling things off, it could be too small for your home. Air conditioners are not all the same size. A system that’s not powerful enough absolutely can’t cool a place the way a properly sized AC can.
